Lofts On The Hudson - Where History Meets Modern Living
For over a century and a half, 726 Hudson Avenue has stood as a proud emblem of Stillwater’s history. Originally home to the United Shirt and Collar Company, this historic building was a cornerstone of the town’s thriving textile industry. Founded in 1884 by James K.P. Pine, the company operated the Lion Factory, producing high-quality men’s shirts and detachable collars. With a workforce of around 50 local residents, the company played an essential role in the community, providing livelihoods and shaping the local economy.
The Great Depression of the 1930s cast a shadow over the company’s fortunes, ultimately leading to its closure and leaving many suddenly unemployed. Yet the building endured, a symbol of Stillwater’s resilience. Over the years, it evolved with the town: one of its owners added a second floor while carefully preserving its original architectural charm, ensuring the structure remained a familiar and cherished landmark.
By the 1970s, the building found new life as a commercial space, hosting enterprises such as Stillwater Wood, a woodworking and furniture company that earned acclaim for its craftsmanship. This chapter continued to cement the building’s place in the community, bridging the past with contemporary commerce.
As Saratoga County has grown and changed, with new residences and modernized amenities reshaping the landscape, 726 Hudson Avenue stands poised for its next transformation. Preserving its historic character while embracing new opportunities, this building remains a vibrant testament to Stillwater’s rich heritage—a living connection between the town’s industrial past and its evolving present.
